Why can't I lose weight? Are dietary supplements right for me?

Obesity and being overweight are considered to be one of the leading causes of death around the world (CDC, 2021). For many, their weight loss journey is far from easy. These people may find themselves eating healthier and at times even working out yet they cannot seem to lose any more weight. This is why it is important to know and understand the other factors that may cause this journey to be more difficult for you than for the person next to you. At the same time depending on who you are, you may find that a weight loss supplement can be very effective to assist you in losing weight and at a quicker rate.


The first and most obvious factor in why you are having difficulty losing weight is the way you eat and your physical activity habits. Many times people will slightly change their eating habits but will still be mainly sedentary. This might help you slightly at the beginning but eventually, you will need to increase your physical activity as well. Other times people find themselves working out a ton but they continue to eat foods that are high in fats or sugars, this may cause them to lose a little weight initially but the food intake can counteract the workouts. It is also important to note that you must stay consistent in your physical activities.


Another factor that can be more difficult to change would be stress. Stress affects each person differently but can be a huge cause for weight gain in some. Stress can cause people to change their every day habits making them eat more, eat unhealthily or even get a poor night's sleep. Many may wonder how a poor night's sleep may affect weight gain. It is because sleeping less may increase oxidative stress, glucose intolerance (a precursor to diabetes), and insulin resistance disrupts circadian rhythms, leading to weight gain (Truong, 2020).


More factors that a person may not be able to control would be genetics and/ or hormones (CDC, 2021). These two factors can be from a number of different things, such as different medical conditions or even certain medications. This is why we suggest consulting with your doctor before making any significant changes to your lifestyle.
